As an always-hungry, always-tired girl dinner dates are very important to me. Whether it is with friends, family, colleagues, or just a catch-up conversation with an old acquaintance I’m always down to explore new gastronomic experiences. Being a city girl has its perks and it’s stupid not to take complete advantage of this opportunity. Mumbai by itself, loves good food and you cannot fool the loyal lovers of Asian food with something below average. I recently visited an Asian restaurant that you should explore when in the city. Asian cuisine keeps rising in popularity across India. In recent years, many high-quality fine dining restaurants have transformed our perception of Asian food, from a quick and inexpensive meal to a gastronomic experience worthy of a special occasion. Nowhere is this more evident than in Mumbai, a city that loves good food, and is not shy of spending if the experience is worthy. On this note, you should try out YUI – Authentic Asian Diner.
The food
We ordered appetizers, a drink, and a main course. Since I completely missed out on clicking pictures of the drink (fresh lime water) and the main course (Chicken Thai curry), I shall dive right into the two appetizers that I tried. To begin with the bao. This is the first time I tried a Bao and loved it. We ordered the Chilli BBQ Chicken Bao. It was served in a special steaming basket traditionally called a Xiaolong. As the description on the menu, the two baos were made in a Lotus flour dough shaped like a ball stuffed with glazed chicken, tossed in chili BBQ sauce. It was steaming hot, as the name suggests. But what’s the fun of eating cold food, yeah? The bao did justice to its hype in my opinion. The first bite melted in my mouth. It was a wholesome taste, the dough was nice and soft, easy to chew. And the chicken was quite juicy, adding the BBQ sauce to the mix was an intelligent choice. All in all, it was a great decision to place an order for another round, because I enjoyed the first bao. And the order arrived pretty quickly.
Next, we ordered Sushi, because what is dining at an Asian Diner and not ordering Sushi? We ordered the Crunchy California Roll. The main ingredient was the crab along with avocado rolled together. The dish looked delightful and the aroma made me more hungry than I was. The crab and avocado roll topped with sesame, crunchy onion, and crab meat mayo was a yummy dish. Although it looked like a light dish, it was quite filling. This was the first time I had tried my hands on crab meat mayo, and it was good. A great experience indeed.
The experience
The experience at the Diner is a 3.5/ 5. We arrived at the diner at 07:45 pm and were the only customers. The ambiance was great, and the soft music in the background was a great filler. We ordered mixed fresh lime water and salty fresh lime soda. The lime water was too sweet and the salty fresh lime soda was sweet and salty (mixed). But that could’ve been a human error, completely negligible. The service was really slow, if the food arrived on time, the server took some time to serve the dish. The staff’s ability to follow instructions was a 3.5 out of 5. I’m unsure if they were unhappy that customers had arrived to have dinner or if the staff just wanted to sit and relax during work hours. Nonetheless, I genuinely enjoyed the food, so next time I crave food from Yui, I’ll opt for a take-out or home delivery.
I sincerely appreciated the effort you’ve invested here. The sketch is tasteful, your authored material chic, however, you seem to have developed some uneasiness about what you aim to offer henceforth. Certainly, I shall revisit more regularly, just as I have been doing nearly all the time, should you uphold this climb.
Hi, thank you so much for your constructive feedback. Could you draw some more light on what you mean when you say ‘uneasiness about what I aim to offer’? I’m willing to make any changes that would enhance your reading experience.
