Rava – A Quick and healthy breakfast

Although half the rava is missing from the pot, we couldn't wait to relish it

This specific dish as a kid was made for breakfast every other weekend at home. My mom insisted that it is healthy and gives strength to the body. It didn’t taste great, to be honest, but years later I do understand the value of rava. This is a very simply 5 step dish and can be modified as per your taste and preference.

Ingredients:

  • 100 gms rava
  • Some ghee (2 tea spoons approx)
  • 100 – 150 ml water
  • 6 table spoons sugar
  • 1 small table spoon spoon elaichi
  • Some saffron
  • 250 ml milk

Cooking process:

  1. Begin by heating a non-stick pan or vessel for about 2 – 3mins
  2. Add the ghee to and and leave it for approx 30 secs
  3. Then add the rava and roast it well. Make sure the rava doesn’t stick to the utensil, gently keep stirring
  4. Once the rava is well roasted pour about 100 ml water and cover the utensil for about 4 mins on mild flame. The purpose is for the water to dry out
  5. When you open the lid, feel free to add some nuts if you like
  6. At this point, add 6 table spoons sugar (as per taste), 1 small table spoon elaichi and some saffron
  7. Gently mix the rava, you will be able to see the rava thicken and the aroma of the mixture will take over your kitchen
  8. Then put off the gas

You now have two bowls of healthy rava. This particular dish can be served to infant, teething babies, workaholic adults or even people who regularly visit the dentist. The quick and healthy bowl of rava is filling and energy boosted, in that moment you might not feel too full, but as your day progresses you will feel the difference.

The added image is half served to the family but I promise its taste is so much more appealing than its appearance.
